Pieter Kamphuisen

Pieter Willem Kamphuisen graduated in medicine at the University of Leiden in 1994. He did a PhD on the relationship between high levels of factor VIII and the risk of thrombosis, and defended his thesis in 2000. He completed his training in internal medicine and vascular medicine at the Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen in 2004. From 2004-2005 he was a research fellow at the department of Vascular Medicine and Stroke Unit in Perugia, Italy. From 2006 until 2011 he was a staff member of the department of Vascular Medicine at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. In 2009, Pieter Kamphuisen was a research fellow at the department of Cardiology in Birmingham, UK.

He currently works at the department of Internal Medicine at Tergooi hospital, Hilversum, The Netherlands and the department of Vascular Medicine at the University Medical Center Groningen, as professor of Vascular Medicine.

In his clinical work, Pieter Kamphuisen diagnoses and treats patients with a variety of vascular disorders and risk factors, such as venous thromboembolism, hypertension, dyslipidemia, vasculitis, and premature atherosclerosis, and complications of its treatment, notably bleeding of anticoagulant treatment.

His scientific work addresses several fields of venous and arterial thrombosis, such as cancer&thrombosis, diagnosis of VTE, (reversal of) DOACs, dyslipidemia and imaging of atherosclerosis.
